Departure to Sandanski. En route, visit to Zemen
Monastery preserving valuable frescoes painted in 14 c. and exceptional architectural
style. Visit to Rila Monastery, the most famous Bulgarian UNESCO sight. Night in Sandanski,
charming spa resort and native place of the Roman hero Spartacus. |

Half-day excursion to Rozhen Monastery owing
its fame to its carved iconostasis and lecterns and to Melnik, the smallest town of
the country famous for its unique wines. Free time and night in Sandanski. |

Departure to Plovdiv. Over-stop in Borovetz,
well-known ski resort. Visit to Bachkovo Monastery, the second important Bulgarian
monastery, founded in the 11 c. by Georgian monks. Night in Plovdiv. |

In the morning, short city tour in Plovdiv.
Departure to Veliko Tarnovo, the medieval Bulgarian capital. Visit to Tzarevetz

Departure to Sofia. En route, visit to Transfiguration
Monastery (Preobrajenie) painted by Zahari Zograf, the best icons painter in Bulgaria
and Troyan Monastery, an example of the rare practice to paint both the
